Morning Afternoon  Activities
9:00-9:15am 12:30-12:45pm Children arrive. Hang coats on pegs in the entrance hall with their nametags provided. Each child collects their name card and is then greeted by a member of staff. Time for free play and talking until everyone has arrived.
9:15-10:00am 12:45-1:30pm The register is taken in the quiet room. Children then have an opportunity to talk about their news and the items they have brought in relating to the topic of the week ( Please see our Topics page). We then talk about the activity of the day.
10:00-10:45am 1:30-2:15pm Free play and activity of the day at the 'big table'. When the free play session ends all children are allocated tidy up tasks.
Various stimulating activities are available during this session:
  • Creative Play - colouring pencils, painting, stencilling, cutting, sticking, gluing, sewing, play dough, sandpit, clay, water play
  • Role and Imaginative Play - Dressing-up, kitchen, workbench, shop, play-food, farm, train-set, dolls house, fort, garage, zoo, castle
  • Manipulative Play - Jigsaws, threading, bricks, lego, duplo, construction type toys, table top toys
  • Pre-Writing Activities - These along with creative type activities take place on our main activity table, the 'big table'. The aim is that children will spend a short time with a member of staff on a one to one basis. Activities include playing games such as lotto, memory games and dominoes
  • Science - Simple experiments, living world, things around us, nature, gardening.
  • Reading - We have a large stock of Playgroup books as well as library books. Children take it in turn to visit the library once a week to change the books.
10:45-11:15am 2:15-2:45pm Story time and songs in the quiet room followed by milk or orange juice and fruit.
11:15-11:30am 2:45-3:00pm During the last part of a playgroup session children are encouraged to participate in physical activity, either inside or outside according to the weather. We have a wide variety of equipment for physical development - balls, basketball, beanbags, bats, wheelbarrow, climbing apparatus, slides, pushchairs, tricycles, bicycles and a playhouse.

Playgroup sessions do vary. We like to have visitors to help us discover more about our topics and we also go out on visits within the village to help us widen our interests in the big wide world. There are a number of events throughout the year for all children at Playgroup - a Christmas Play, Christmas Party, Summer Outing, Sports Day and taking part in the Pre-Learning Alliance Playweek.
