February seemed a very short month with a week taken out for the half-term holiday. New children have started and are beginning to settle and the cold spell of weather has meant that Inny Outy sessions have been very different. The children are getting much quicker at putting on their coats – but it did take us so long one day that by the time we got outside all the snow had disappeared! The medium term plan of ‘Opposites’ worked well with children learning various opposites including bald and hairy, warm and cold, clean and dirty and girl and boy. The understanding of some of the opposites even spilled over in to the shared reading activity on a Monday morning. Sam was very proud of himself when he discovered pictures of opposites in his book. The number ‘Fourteen’ was great fun with the number 14 bus travelling in the role play area. We made tickets (14p), bus passes (for people under the age of 14) as well as trying to get 14 people on to the bus. We are, at present, learning all about healthy eating. The snack this week has been cheese and crackers and next week will include fruit salad and vegetable sticks (all prepared by the children). We discovered today that we all need food, drink, to be clean, to do exercise and to be loved to enable us to be healthy. The digiblue camera has proved to be highly entertaining. All staff have now had a training session on the use of the camera and are in the process of making their own mini films during different sessions. A film has been made of a normal Playgroup session (normal – what is that?) to be used when showing parents around our setting. It has already proved useful! Easter is nearly here – may we remind everyone that this is our spring cleaning time and all parents are invited to take home some of our amazing resources to play with (and wash) over the holidays.
