We
started the year with very sad news – Helens illness and untimely
death was a shock for everyone who knew her. It has been a difficult
time for us all. Helen
touched so many people, and this has been shown in the wonderful
support that has been given to Helen’s family and to the Playgroup
staff. Thank you to everyone who has helped us all to get through
the start of term. Being with the children has really helped the
staff and we hope to be able to keep Playgroup the way Helen would
have wanted.
We
have a book of condolence at Playgroup which will be passed on to
Helen’s family. We would also like to keep a book at Playgroup to
fill with happy memories of Helen. If anyone would like to
contribute please ask a member of staff for a card to go in the
book.
We
started the term looking at bears – where they lived, stories
about bears and maths for bears. The ice for the polar bears proved
very popular. The role play area became a wildlife area with
cardboard boxes for bear caves. We made big pictures of bears,
smaller colourful bear pictures, delicious ginger bear biscuits,
bears with parachutes and bear faces. We had great fun going on the
bear hunt, finding out about Paddington and having a Teddy Bears
picnic with honey sandwiches.
The
“maths for bears” topic included making a height chart of the
children which is now on display in the Quiet Room, finding out how
to share sweets and sandwiches fairly, sorting bears into groups,
and counting bears forwards and backwards. The role play area was
turned into a maths corner and the children had lots of fun with
clipboards and tape measures.
We
had a lovely frosty morning where the children saw lots and lots of
beautiful spider webs in the garden. The children were asked if they
wanted to draw what they had seen - poor rota mum was deluged by so
many budding artists!
The
snow arrived in Kineton this year. Playgroup was open on the
Thursday but only one brave Mum ventured out with her two children,
so the decision was taken to close early. Playgroup will always try
to remain open in all weathers, but we will try to let you know as
early as possible if we have to close for any reason.
Staff
have been busy attending training courses and looking at other
settings for ideas for the new building and outside play area. It is
really exciting and we look forward to the building work starting
soon.
The
story time at the library has now changed to wiggle and jiggle, we
were able to take a few children last month and they had a great
time. Hopefully if we have enough parent helpers we can take all of
the Thursday afternoon children on February 22nd.
This
next half term we will be looking at changes – science and
experiments, growth, art and recycling and seasons
