The
summer term has gone so fast. It hasn’t really seemed like summer
with all the rain but we have tried to have a summer feel with the
role play area being travel agents. Outside there is a beach hut and
a seaside café and shop – selling ice creams!
Thankfully
the weather was kind on us for our trip to Mary Arden’s house. The
coach ride was very exciting on the way there and cosy enough for
children to fall asleep on the way back. Once there we tried to find
as many different farm animals as we could and then went on a really
long walk. We were ready for our lunch after the walk –some of us
were ready before. The missing gypsy caravans made room for us to
have our lunch under cover – how convenient. After lunch we
discovered how people lived a long time ago. The children loved the
adventure playground. The highlight of the trip was being led by
Lizzie Pearce in the dancing while we waited for our bus. The best
moments are often the unplanned ones.
This
term we have been looking at lots of different ways of moving. We
started by looking at going on holiday and making sure we were safe
in the sun. We thought about what we might take with us, how we
would get there and where we might stay. We moved on to look at
different types of transport. Jane conducted a transport survey with
the children outside Playgroup. It was quite surprising how busy the
road is on a Monday afternoon. Unfortunately the weather was against
us for our trip to Compton Verney but we still made the biscuits and
ate them at Playgroup.
The
children have enjoyed the moving ourselves topic especially the
disco on Friday morning. The children were excellent at their keep
fit exercises. We also talked about eating healthily and made the
bread we were unfortunately not able to make on the trip.
We
didn’t let the weather spoil our sports day and held the event in
the church hall. The children were fantastic with everyone taking
part, finding the right place to sit on the bench during the relay
race proved a bit tricky. Thanks to our work placement student Laura
for taking part. Playgroup staff tried really hard with the relay
race much to the amusement of the playgroup children. Thank you to
the mums and dads that were coerced by Marie to join in. The
children love to see their parents taking part.
A
big thank you to all who helped out as staff succumbed to the tummy
bug. The staff would also like to thank everyone for their help,
support and encouragement over what has been a very difficult year.
We
would like to wish all the school starters all the best in their new
schools. For those that will be returning to Playgroup in September
we look forward to being in our new building – Helen’s Place. We
hope you all have a happy summer break.
