The
new year is going by so fast - we have been busy welcoming in lots
of new children. They are all beginning to settle well and we look
forward to more new children starting after Easter. To
help with all the new children we have now added extra staff at the
sessions. We have recently taken on Gail to help on Thursday
mornings. Gail has previously worked at Playgroup so it is lovely to
welcome her back. With the nice weather, it has been great to be
able to have the "inny-outy" sessions again - even
the recent cold spell hasn't deterred us. The children
have loved playing with the builder's yard and have enjoyed being
able to get onto the grass and the climbing frame.
We
have started the visits up to
Big
School
for the September school starters - which they are thoroughly
enjoying. It enables them to meet their class teacher, meet
freinds and older brothers and sisters. It also helps them to find out about
the routine at
Big
School
.
The medium term plan of
"Changes" has been very popular with the children
especially the scientific experiments, with children learning about
melting ice, mixing oil and water, experimenting with colours, and
finding out about growth. We have used real frogspawn kept at
Playgroup to watch how they change and grow.
With the art and recycling topic we
looked at the use of recycled materials in our art work. The
children have enjoyed using the resource area independently to make
3D models. They have learnt about tie dying, rainbow colours, and designing
cards. We have made a booklet, on display at Playgroup showing the
children’s own ideas for the new building’s garden - although
I'm not sure how we will fit in giraffes and dinosaurs. Sam's
mum has already drawn up some proposals which we are reviewing. If
parents would also like to contribute ideas please feel welcome. Any
ideas would be greatly appreciated.
On a health note, and with the
weather now hopefully warming up, could I just remind everyone to
make sure there is a cool pack in the child's lunch box and that
food is segregated (wrapped or packaged) so that the children don't
end up with soggy sandwiches.
Easter is nearly here and may we
remind everyone that this is our spring cleaning time. All parents
are invited to take home some of our amazing resources to play with
(and wash) over the holidays.
This week we are preparing for Easter
with egg hunts and cooking activities .After Easter we will be
looking at Time, dinosaurs, homes and old toys and games and we
will be planning a Playgroup outing for May / June time. Look out
for more details soon.
